About the Addison Township Mental Health Board

The Addison Township Community Mental Health Board was established in 2023 to strengthen the mental health and wellness of residents within Addison Township. The Board supports local programs that address mental health, disabilities, and substance use by investing public funds into high-quality, community-based services.

The term “708” refers to an Illinois statute—originating from an Illinois House of Representatives resolution (ILHR708)—that enables local communities to create a mental health board through voter referendum. This provides a dedicated, community-controlled funding source for essential behavioral health services.

To ensure funding aligns with community needs, the Board conducts a comprehensive needs assessment every three years. These findings guide annual priorities, informing which programs, providers, and initiatives receive funding and how resources are allocated to maximize community impact.

The Board is composed of volunteer members appointed by Township Supervisor Bobby Hernandez. Members include mental health professionals, community representatives, and individuals with lived experience. Together, they work to expand access to care, promote early intervention, increase awareness, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

The Community Mental Health Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM at the Addison Township Town Hall, unless otherwise announced. Residents are encouraged to attend and stay engaged in shaping the future of behavioral health services in the community.
